IF you don't wanna read this here's the links to the music and foto's. But it's a ripping yarn, a laugh in places and gives the backstory that I beleive will only enhance the music for you.
For how can a band of such obvious, if spirited amateurs sound so good?
But "do as thy will" is one of my philosophies
and so I enable you to do that if thy so wilt.
777 were a HULL based band whose sound many compared to other seminal bands such as Joy Division, Sonic Youth, The Velvet Underground, and The Smiths amongst others. This is due partly to their raw live stage sound, great tunes, homemade instruments and lack of pretense when dealing with Fans, Media and Critics.
But Anthony disagrees with all these comparisons of his music to others and wishes his music to be judged only by its own merit and not as some adjunct/comparison to a previous artist’s endeavours, no matter how well thought of that artist might be.
So let the music speak for itself and Anthony isn't bothered if you like it or not. All he cares about is that it has been done and done right. like/dislike is a subjective thing, but the Art stands or falls alone.
But if anything these comparisons can serve only as a signpost that points the way to that Elysian concert hall, where only seminal bands are ever allowed play. A place where the need for freedom of expression far outweighs any wish to follow in the footsteps of others or slavishly imitate the latest soon to be forgotten trend for mere money.
777 recorded their First Demo (Five songs about us) in Hull in 2002 at the now defunct studio THE DIGITAL HIT FACTORY on Analby Road, nextdoor to the mirror shop. Originally mixed by the Young Christian/Alien off American dad lookalike working there at the time (and after a failed blackmail attempt by the studio owner to extort more money for the recordings from the band, though when the band threatened to
"KICK HIS FUCKING TEETH OUT THROUGH HIS ARSEOLE"
if he didn't deliver the masters toute suite this feeble attempt was subsequently and abruptly abandoned).
Ah the music business, full of nice, helpful characters,
and wonderful memories...
This was subsequently remastered by KEITH HIRD of Fairview studios (David Bowie, Spiders from Mars, Mick Ronson and many others) and was distributed to the industry in 2003. The track “SPIDERS” received regular BBC Radio airplay and the track “STARS” was playlisted into the K.C stadium half time entertainment program during Hull City A.F.C matches, being regularly played to crowds of up to 18,000. Back in the days before the middleclass everyman and his kid was at City like it is now they are in the premiership. Never saw none of em at Boothferry Park much, and they certainly weren't in with the cadre of the HULL CITY PSYCHO'S. As wasn't Anthony but he had a few mates who were from Francis Askew and Sydney Smith/Punk days, but only HE, THEY and the Anti Hooliganism unit of the Humberside Police know who they are and it's best that it remains so.
On the live side of things 777 played numerous live dates in the north of England, mostly in and around Hull. The most memorable being The Gay and Lesbian Pride Festival in HULL Queens Gardens, on the Mick Ronson memorial piece of concrete (its an ungrateful business Mick!!!!) to an appreciative crowd of 1500+ (Where a tranvestite performer took a shine to drummer Russ as a nice bit of ruff (why is it always you russ??) backstage and then the organisers went on to rip the band off for the crate of beer they promised ....Yay.....Gay rights) and Maverick's #1 (aka Vendetta's) in Driffield, with "Gunmaster" Graham Bell manning the door and selling second hand wisdom to the youth and featuring the mongoloid, care in the community support band ROOM FIVE. Who just turned up and wouldnt go away after that.
and Mavericks #2 with local teenage hair band...
THE PASS, Who later morphed into KILL SURF CITY.
The vehicle used for attending all these events was a old style London Black Cab bought for 300 pounds. This was typical of 777’s original take on Rock ‘n’ Roll. No white transit for him.
But It is with deep sadness that I must report that by Nov 2003 the Black Cab (a.k.a The Arkansas Chuckabug) had gone to the great scrapyard in the sky and the 777 band vehicle became a Silver Volvo 760 Gle Estate, unaffectionately dubbed the “Vulva” as everytime we went anywhere over 10 miles away in it, it broke down like on every trip to London the band ever made. What a vulva. So it’s official, Volvo’s are shit and 777 would welcome any sponsorship – cash – crash test Dummies from Volvo. Many recovery truck A.A men are big 777 fans and only know 777's Anthony to speak to as Mark (aka MarkovDriff)
777 recorded their first and sadly only album

Simon, whilst working as in house engineer at CBS
has the following acts on his credits
(The Clash, Culture Club, XTC, The Beach Boys, ABBA, Bruce Forsythe and Christopher Lee) to name but a few...
"This is all true really, you get all sorts in a top recording studio doing voice-overs you know." ...
was a Simon quote, along with
"What's that fackin' racket...? Where's that buzzing coming from."
But has since been reported that his wife has flatly refused to watch TOTP2/Old Gay Whistle test with him any longer,
as she's sick of hearing the phrase.
"Worked with them, they were fackin' wankers."
Love you simon, the inventor of keepin' it real,
or was it keepin' it cash?
His comment on 777’s music was
“The Spirit of 76”
Due to their no nonsense live recording style,
D.I.Y ethic and ability to record five live tracks in a day.
Which the band took as a massive complement,
Seeing as he was there recording
“White riot”…with the Clash...
during the three day week,
power cuts and rubbish piling up in the streets....
‘appy days.
The tiled backdrop picture is of the crazy lass of Pontefract, who when the band were on a saturday night break from the studio in nearby Pontefract, grabbed 777 Drummer and well known spandex advocate Russell Wood, by the throat sat him on a chair of the public house we were in, got his cock out without permission and proceeded to start dildoing herself with the said article, whilst grabbing guitarist John "Carphone" Inglis's phone off him in mid text turning the camera on and inventing the SELFIE.
Flash bang what a picture...
Where is she now, who can say?
Woods only comment on the incident was
"I felt no gusset..."
Since the recording of this in Feb 2004, 777 signed a non-exclusive single deal with Dale Olivier of Matchbox Recordings of Oxford to release the track “STARS” on a compilation C.D. The C.D was released on the 9th August 2004 under the title
“ONE GIANT STEP”
YOU CAN BUY IT in a charity shop near you

Wonder where he is now???
certainly not predicting the future for a living,
get in touch any time Dave, you Hope and anchor.
Since the release of the Album, 777 were playlisted on Mexican Radio (No Not Wall of Voodoo) In Guadalajara, Tijuana and Mexico City and this could perhaps explain the popularity of Morrissey within the Hispanic community.
777 also played gigs both in Hull and London to support the
AUGUST 2004 release at the following venues.
"Just lucky I guess"
Obviously did not allay their suspicions of card counting...
And even less recently in SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER OF 2004
and finally in the capital
Sometime later at the Notorious trend spot The Queens, Hull. A beardy Hullite approached Anythony and was quoted as saying "I saw your band onstage in London, i really liked it when you screamed out DEATHCAMP at the top of your lungs" Glad it wasn't all in vain...Anthony was also spotted at a petrol station at the top of coltman street by a fan, who approached him and said "I saw your band at Adelphi...I liked it, You were so intense" Considering we were at the time a Mariachi band, 2 guitars and bass with no drummer doing the musicians night. It ws the greatest compliment he ever got. And the only time we ever played the Adelphi. apart from when they did a recording session there with Soundman Jim. Not the easiest of sessions but the recordings were better than expected and some video was shot of the day. (See video section) as pre- production for the Castleford recordings, all for 25 quid. cheers Jim you're a star.
777 is now STILL looking to submit his recordings to people in the music industry and media. So if you have something of interest to him then use the contact page and get in touch, or the email [email protected], But beware as Anthony will brook no rubbish from anyone and believes that if your deal is good you shouldn't be having to ask him for money upfront or whatever scam it is to prey on the hopes and dreams of gullible musicians that's running these days. Anthony does not pay to play, people pay him to perform and management should make its cut from the earnings, if not whats the point of ya? As the last approach Anthony received was a request for some of his music to be used on the soundtrack of The Long Way down...the Ewan McGregor follow up bike movie, but in the end their London promises came to nought.
So to quote French Montana and the coke boys
"If it ain't money then i'm not involved,
tell 'em don't waste my time...behave"
So he still runs a strictly no bullshit policy from somewhere in Amsterdam. Where according to the British embassy website falling into a canal whilst whilst drunk is still the number one cause of death for British visitors .
The inevitable demise and falling out of such a raucous crew began around January of 2005 after John Inglis who had already left the band some months earlier eventually marrying the Bransholme Wiccan in a pagan cermony they now have a child and moved back to from whence he came, REDCAR. Whose now defunct steelworks as Carphone never failed to tell anyone were the inspiration for the opening scenes of the RIDLEY SCOTT film Bladerunner, As well as his assertion that him and his dad were the inspiration for THE MILK BOY (Brilliant) and "BLOODY RUBBISH" DAD off the Fast Show as he "knew" Paul Whitehouse, back in the day. The bin bags of grief finally found their way home,
indeed a truly incredible journey.
777 limped on as a three piece for the Tap and Spile gig (see the fotosection) but we looked so tired or was it just the effect of being exposed to FRANKS RIGHT HAND TROUSER for an evening, who knows???
and at the first rehursal after christmas/new year Russ Wood turned up on his latest mountain bike at Anthony's flat named by the band the FUHRERBUNKER (Because of it's one door in and out or at least thats what they told Anthony) and asked if he could borrow Anthonys bike lock as his previous 14 other mountain bikes had been stolen and he was worried this one would go the same way.
When Anthony refused to help him, having advised him numerous times to buy a lock already and said "Go buy your own and perhaps you might be able to keep your bike for more than 10 minutes." A furious row erupted amongst the remaining three members , Russ (Drums) officially left that night and after Anthony and Del "Delmeister" Ribeiro further argued over Del's lack of commitment and effort to anything other than "Being well thought of" by the Paddingtons and their friends, the parting of the ways had surely come, leaving a spiritually and mentally exhusted Anthony to wonder what went wrong with something so right.
But after a time of healing and the eventual reconciliation of Russ and Anthony through their mutual love of Golf, a reconciliation was briefly attempted but Del's stubborn refusal to even speak to Anthony or Russ when all three met in the street one fateful night on Prinny Ave and his subsequent unauthorised "Remixing" of 777''s material, leading to threats of legal action by Anthony for copyright infringement, mean that up to press a reunion is unlikely.
But that said, Anthony loves Del for all his stubborness and John too and hopes that one day that they get the fuck over whatever it is that irks them and wishes them well and will be always pleased to speak to either of them.

777 also played gigs both in Hull and London to support the
AUGUST 2004 release at the following venues.
- The White Room with Room Five, Where the footage for the Spiders videopromo was shot and edited by, Patrick "Plaggy"Wilson and where Room five again just turned up and their care worker demanded they play or their might be an "Episode". The bassist Pad pap later went on to put hic cock on a tire and set it on fire, when he went off his meds .
- The Polar Bear (where the band were due to play at 9pm but postponed til 10pm due to excessive rain and were subsequently told to TURN IT FACKIN' DOWN by a massively butch lesbian behind the bar after literally 5 seconds and subsequently ripped off for 25 of the 50 pounds promised as they had started late and nobody came. (YaY... Dyke munter rights!).
- said Anthony of the Incident,
- "She was fucking massive, I wasn´t going to argue with A Bear Dyke and lose an eye over 25 quid now was I.."
- The Grizzly bear Dyke was later reported to have commented that 777 were the "Loudest and most well organised band the Polar Bear had ever had seen" in her time as landlady (see photosection)
- “The Sesh”@The Linnet and Lark
- Supporting were the The Vultures, who like all support bands tried to insist that they were the headline and should go on last and only had one good tune, it was a shambles alright...
- The Hayworth Arms, where some video was recorded of the show and will be sooner or later digitised and uploaded for viewing (although the audio on the camera was bad but thanks anyway to Rico) Where the omnipresent arrogant hippy soundman could be heard shouting TURN OFF THE BASS, TURN OFF THE BASSSS at the end of the set as Del stood his instrument near the speaker causing terrifying feedback as he left the stage. (see videosection) coming soon to a you tube stream near you.)
- Tap and spile (see fotosection) which was to be the last ever performance of the line up as it was, and was only memorable for the absolute cockishness of the support act??? FRANKS RIGHT HAND TROUSER, the drunk toerag who thought he was funny baiting the band at the soundcheck Said Anthony "I'd have filled him in, but he was a bag of bones.."
"Just lucky I guess"
Obviously did not allay their suspicions of card counting...
And even less recently in SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER OF 2004
- The Archway Tavern, ARCHWAY, London. (see photosection) which was noteable only for its lack of incident and one of the only gigs 777 ever played in the capital that was enjoyed by all.
- The Pleasure Unit, BETHNAL GREEN. London
- Where the band were ripped off of three guitar stands, then threatened with a claw hammer by the owner several times and made to clean off the Graffitti "London's Burning ...dial 777" from outside his venue and told
- "not to dis him in Hull as he had "Contacts up north" "
- and then after all the unpleasantness suddenly paid the band 25 quid "Travelling money" with a cheers lads...
- London. Where, as we all know, the streets are paved with gold or was it hope and anchors, you decide?
and finally in the capital
- The Dublin Castle, which the band were disapointed with as it was neither in Dublin nor castlelike in anyway. This gig was mostly memorable for the carphones girlfriend/wife getting fucked off her face on pissjizz and threatening to kill the bouncer who was visbly shaken that such a little lass could be so threatening and then after eventually running out of steam taking a quiet nap on the comfortable and roomy streets of London. The comfort inn of all Bransholmers away from home and spent the next 20 minutes having to be lured in to the car as she clearly didn't want to leave the beautiful south. Eventually London animal control was called and after getting her head through that loop on a pole she was put snarling and scratching into the car where she promptly threw up into a plastic bag. A bransholme girls idea of a great night out and one which earned her a place along with her truly horrible friend EveHo a place on Ladette to lady, where she went on to become a wonderful, well mannered girl.
Sometime later at the Notorious trend spot The Queens, Hull. - Del Ribeiro has since happily gone on to to achieve his two lifelong ambitions of being "well thought of" by The Paddingtons and their Prinny Ave clique and his other lifelong ambition of never having to get a job, by becoming a landlord. The Rupert Rigsby of Hull.
- Russell Wood is alive and well and fighting off black mold down Coltman Street, working as a trained chef and would be painter and decorator. He is a keen golfer and winner of the Turkey Crown and current holder of the Hughes Wood Inaugural trophy. And at last meeting was still a fervent advocate for the Association of Spandex manufacturers.
- Anthony ian Hughes now lives at an undisclosed location in a cupboard in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and is at this time an independent No budget/low budget filmmaker and still makes music with his current project DATAMONKEY and is working on further guitar based material.
- James John Inglis, is a married father, and was living at the last report in Redcar.
